“How can you become bigger?” – Scott Gass
I had a wonderful time talking with Scott Gass @scottgass. He is an international speaker and trainer on peak performance. He helps individuals and businesses break through their inner psychological blocks and get to the next level.
He was one of Tony Robbins top speakers and trainers for seven years and recently lived in Asia for the last two years working with businesses there. He traveled to 20 countries and worked with business owners in Asia without knowing the language.
Here are some of the key takeaways from our time together:
Mindset
You need tools to master your state
The way you feel = your state
Health is your foundation
Put good food, thoughts, words (read) in your mind and body every day
Question Scott asks himself, “How can I become bigger?”
It’s not what you do. It’s who you become.
How can you improve yourself – mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually?
Tools/Rituals Scott uses:
- Exercise
- Prayer
- Mindfulness (meditation)
- Reading
- Breathwork
- Fasting
Stand out instead of trying to fit in
Be in an ENERGY RICH state
Heighten the emotion – clear intention – raise the vibration
Rejuvenate, reset and realign with fasting:
- Get awareness around food
- Most food we eat is based on our emotions
- Diminish cravings for unhealthy foods
- Know your why
- Reset intestinal stem cells in your gut
Exercise
Functional, compound movements – Multi-joint movements
More volume over time vs. heavy weights
Goal is not to be sore – can do more volume during the week
Scott’s current workout:
- 3 sets of pull ups
- 4 sets of push ups
- 3-4 sets of squats
- Power cleans
- Turkish get ups
Eating
80/20 rule – 80% healthy, clean / 20% go nuts – enjoy life, be flexible
Front load – eat healthy meals early to build momentum through day
Scott’s eating is a combination of:
- Intermittent fasting
- Gluten free
- Vegetarian / Vegan
Experiment and try new things
Switch it up so your body doesn’t get used to the same thing
Business
You can only control what you can control
Set up habits and rituals to create certainty especially when traveling
Do what fills you up and gives you momentum
- Plan your day night before
- Knock out big thing in morning
- Spend time with family
To do something we’ve never achieved we have to become a different person
Most people grow in times of uncertainty
No matter where you go you take your habits with you
Routine gives you certainty in uncertain times
You got your way by getting in the way = SHOW UP
We get to create/ reinforce our habits every day
We create our habits and over time our habits create us
“Be a slave to your habits” – Og Mandino
Three ways to create change
- Total immersion – go to an event
- Accountability – group dynamics / mastermind group
- Spaced repetition – do the little things over and over and over
